As previously announced, in compliance with Decision No. 2345/QĐ-NHNN dated December 18, 2023, of the State Bank of Vietnam, Techcombank has pioneered in supporting customers to update biometric authentication on the Techcombank Mobile application since July 1, 2024.

 

In the initial deployment phase, taking advantage of the situation that some customers have not successfully updated their biometric information, several scammers have impersonated bank to contact customers and offer to "assist" with the installation process, with the aim of stealing their assets and information.

 

Techcombank has identified the following sophisticated methods:

Impersonating bank employees Sending text messages by impersonated brand name Impersonating call center / customer care hotline Creating fake social accounts and emails

 

With Common Scamming Scenarios:

  • Contacting customers to support biometric update.
  • Informing customers that their biometric update information is incorrect, error.
  • Warning customers about unsuccessful transactions or risks after biometric update.
  • Following bank's official fanpage to interact with customer’s comments in order to lure customers into private contact (inbox) with scammers for committing fraud.
  • Sending content about biometrics with malicious links or impersonated brand name through SMS, email, or chat to trick customers into clicking on the link and providing security information.
  • Sending phishing links disguised as biometric update support applications to trick customers to install an application and take over customer’s mobile devices.

Do not provide personal information, passwords, or bank OTPs to anyone, including bank employees.

Do not access or click on strange links sent via SMS, email, social networks such as Facebook, Zalo, Viber, etc.

Contact to Techcombank's official support channels:

Do not download applications of biometric update support on mobile devices (phones)
Do not share personal information, banking service information, transactions... on social platforms to avoid being approached by scammers.
