In compliance with Circular 41/2018/TT-NHNN on supplementing the basic standard regulations (VCCS), the Vietnam Commercial Joint Stock Bank issues and completely converts the Napas domestic card from technology to chip technology for all customers.

1. The difference between a magnetic card and a chip card

  • Magnetic card: is a card containing a magnetic tape with the task of storing the encrypted information of the customer. The data on the magnetic card is stored fixed on the magnetic strip (back of the card) and is only encrypted once, so there is a risk of theft of card information and transaction fraud.
  • Chip card: also known as "smart card," the card has a microcircuit attached to its surface and this is the basic difference between a chip card and a magnetic tape card. For chip cards, transaction data includes data that is stored fixed at the chip (front of the card) and transaction codes that vary with each transaction.

2. Superior features of chip cards

  • Domestic chip cards meet all technical requirements for safety and security according to the most advanced VCCs standards.
  • The card uses a microchip to store card information instead of the magnetic strip, minimizing fake and fraudulent transactions because only the issuing bank can read the data in the card.
  • Each transaction will have its own authentication code, ensuring that no data can be stolen to forge a card transaction.
With contactless payment technology, simply tap the POS device to make a transaction without swiping or inserting a chip into the card reader.
  • Contactless chip cards help speed up the processing of payment transactions, which is more convenient than traditional cash payments.
