In today’s digital age, social media has become an integral part of life in Vietnam, offering convenience in both work and daily activities. However, alongside these benefits, fraudsters are increasingly taking advantage of social media platforms to impersonate trusted entities, deceive customers, and steal personal information or assets.

Step 2 Contact the victim |
Step 3 Steal personal information and assets |
Use personal social media accounts with names resembling bank brands or customer service roles to deceive users. | Reach out to customers through bank fanpages; taking advantage of situations where customers need support, to reply victim’s comments or sends inbox messages to victims impersonating the bank to lure victims or send links requesting information to access digital banking or card information. | Take over the victim's banking account, transfer money into the fraudster’s account, use card information to make payments on behalf of the victim. |
Fraudsters often trick victims into downloading fake applications, leading to the theft of personal information and assets.
Step 1 Impersonate agencies or companies

Step 2 Contact the victim |
Step 3 Steal personal information and assets |
Pose as government officials (e.g., local police, tax officers, or prosecutors), banking staff, telecommunications representatives, or delivery service agents. | Call, send SMS, or messages via social media apps (such as Zalo, Viber, Facebook, or Threads) containing fake links, QR codes, or instructions to download malicious applications. |
Fake applications will ask victims to grant access to their devices or contain malicious code that can collect information (such as biometrics, e-banking login accounts, etc.); appropriate personal information for use in illegal purposes such as illegal borrowing, blackmail, etc.; control the device to transfer money from the victim's account to the fraudster account. |
